Word of Jesus Part 5

Mat 8:3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
Mat 8:4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

The next actual words of Jesus is to a leper who came to Him to be healed of his leprosy. The beautiful words of Jesus were, "I will"

This shows us the heart of God. God wants to heal. He wants us to live. He wants to give us eternal life. He wants us to be saved. God does not enjoy seeing suffering, pain and souls lost forever.

I don't know why everyone is not healed. I don't know why there is disaster and suffering but I do know from the words of Jesus that God does not want this for us. We may have it in this life, or we may be healed in this life but He made a way in eternity that we will never suffer again.

Mat 8:7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.

A centurion asked for the healing of a servant but felt unworthy for Jesus to come into his house. He knew that Jesus could just say the word and the healing would take place. The centurion was a man of authority so he knew his word had power so he assumed the word of Jesus had power.

Mat 8:10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
Mat 8:11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 8:12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Mat 8:13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

Jesus marveled at the faith of this centurion. He points out that many shall come from other lands (the Gentiles) and be partaker of the kingdom of God because of their faith but the ones to whom the kingdom was given originally will be cast out because they refused to believe.

The centurions servant was healed the same hour in which the centurion believed.

Mat 8:14 And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever.
Mat 8:15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them.
Mat 8:16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
Mat 8:17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

Although Jesus didn't have any recorded words in verses 14-17, I fell that it should be included in this study since it contains a very important prophecy of Jesus taking on our infirmities and baring our sicknesses. This is a fulfillment of

Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Isa 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Mat 8:19 And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
Mat 8:20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
Mat 8:21 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
Mat 8:22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

Jesus was pointing out here the cost of following Him. He is telling those who desire to go with Him that sometimes He didn't have a place to lay His head. When one desired to bury his father first, Jesus pointed out that others who were dead in sin could bury the dead. He was not being heartless here but only pointing out the importance of the task of spreading the gospel. It is actually more important that our jobs, our families and burying the dead. The reason is that this life is temporary. Eternity is forever.

Mat 8:26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

When the wind and the sea was tossing the ship, the disciples were afraid. Jesus rebuked them for fear and little faith.
This shows us that faith and confidence in God is very important to our survival. In fact faith is what saves us from sin and brings us eternal life.

Mat 8:28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
Mat 8:29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
Mat 8:30 And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding.
Mat 8:31 So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.
Mat 8:32 And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.
Mat 8:33 And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils.
Mat 8:34 And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their coasts.

Here we see a case where people were more concerned about swine than a poor man being possessed of a devil and set free. The only word of Jesus we see recorded here is the word, GO. He said God and the devils went into the herd of swine. We also see the fact the the devils knew who Jesus was and accused Him of tormenting them before their time. In other words, the devil knows that his time is limited.

That is all God has to say to free a soul from sin, heal the sick and raise the dead. GO. Go and our sins our gone, Go and our sickness is healed. Go and sin no more is what He says to us.
